With a population of almost 120,000, according to the 2010 Census, Allentown is the largest city in the Lehigh Valley as well as the 3rd largest in the state, according to allentownpa.gov Founded in 1762 and nicknamed the Queen City, Allentown is rich in history and culture that carries over to today. Over the last several years, the city has undergone major redevelopment, transforming it into truly modern metropolitan living. 

According to The Morning Call, City Center has invested $400 million in revitalizing the area, making it a desirable location for a variety of dynamic businesses, restaurants, and living space. Examples include the PPL Center - home of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms Ice Hockey, major hotel chains, upscale restaurants, modern condominium residences, and beautiful green space. Recently, the Downtown Allentown Revitalization District was one of 13 real estate development projects worldwide to win the Urban Land Institute’s 2017-2018 Global Award for Excellence, as noted by PRISMpub.com. 

The city of Allentown is home to a variety of businesses including Air Products, PPL, and Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network which employs approximately 18,000 people, according to the 2017LVHN Annual Report. In 2015, Fortune Magazinenamed Allentown as one of the nation’s 10 best cities for finance and IT operation. It also has more acres of open land per capita than any other American city its size. 

As noted by allentown.gov., there are a variety of public, Christian, and charter schools within the city, including Allentown School District, Diocese of Allentown, Arts Academy Charter Middle School, and Roberto Clemente Middle School. Additionally, there are three colleges - Cedar Crest College, Lehigh Carbon Community College, and Muhlenberg College. 

Allentown has an abundance of family activities to promote fun and healthy living. The Lehigh Parkway, (just one of many parks), offers 6 miles of walking trails, fishing, and picnic space and the nearby Rose Garden is a popular wedding location. The Allentown Art Museum, DaVinci Science Center, and America on Wheels are popular venues to enhance children’s learning and family fun. Dorney Park and the Wildwater Kingdom, an amusement and water park, is nationally recognized and is home to world-class coasters and rides for kids (and adults) of all ages.
